First testings on the test bench in Anglet
As the SMHRU and LHTES are now installed on the test bench in Anglet (Nobatek), a series of onsite tests is ongoing. Among those, we can list the following:
Value coming from the sensors
Forced piloting of the ventilators and dampers by the use of the GUI of the BEMS
Automatic piloting of the ventilators and dampers based on the piloting algorithm implemented in the BEMS
Air tightness tests (see video)
Next step is to place the mineral wool board to insulate the cell, and to place the anchorings, profiles and cladding for the ventilated façade.

SMHRU & LHTES installation on test bench
After measurements carried out in the laboratories of TECNALIA and NOBATEK, new version of the SMHRU and LHTES have been designed and next manufactured by ELVAL. The systems were next sent to Anglet in order to be assembled and installed on the test bench.
Regarding the LHTES, in this version the Phase Change Materials in the LHTES are encapsulated in phase change materials. Custom-made dampers allow to change effectively from one circuit to another while ensuring air tightness.
The assembling and installation process was assessed, and first feedbacks were analysed.
The BEMs allow to collect the data measured by the sensors and pilot effectively both systems.
A series of onsite tests will now be carried out.

Test bench, and renovation of the reference cell with ETICS
The test bench that will be used is located in Nobatek, in Anglet, France. It will be used in order to carry out the first renovation with the E2VENT module in order to test, improve and finalize its design, installation process and its control. Then it will allow to compare the overall energy efficiency of the E2VENT Module against competitive solutions.
The test bench is composed of three cells that will all be renovated with different systems:
Cell West: the cell that will be considered as a reference renovated with ETICS
Cell Center: a cell renovated with a ventilated façade without any HVAC systems
Cell East: E2VENT renovation, with a SMHRU and LHTES with the associated BEMs
During the first period, some works on the test bench were carried out. Windows were taken out, and concrete blocks were built on the three cells. It represent the low efficient walls from the 70’s.
Next step is to install the SMHRU and LHTES on the test bench.

First SMHRU and LHTES prototypes (M18)
The SMHRU (Smart Heat Recovery Unit) and LHTES (Latent Heat Thermal Storage) systems have been manufactured by ELVAL COLOR, according to the designs made by TECNALIA and NOBATEK.
Both systems correspond to heat exchangers that are integrated into Etalbond casings to be installed on the façade of the buildings to be renovated.
The SMHRU is an air renewal system to ensure a high indoor air quality for the flats to be renovated. It embeds a heat recovery unit allows to limit the thermal losses.
The LHTES is a designed to store the external potential energy in order to use it for heating or cooling. Therefore, it can be seen as a complementary system to the SMHRU with high performance for heating and cooling especially aiming at reducing the peak loads.
